Hail The Sun Inspires Introspection Through Post-Hardcore

California-based band Hail The Sun is reshaping the way we view the progressive post-hardcore genre with their intricate arrangements and complex metaphors on their album "Mental Knife."

Their combination of expressive vocals and mind-blowing musical innovation makes them a shining light in a genre that can often feel recycled and redundant.

The album title stems from the idea of being able to "surgically remove" parts of ourselves and our identities that don't contribute to a fulfilling existence. This visualization requires self awareness and inspires us to think twice about our behaviors. Although rather than feeling regretful, they encourage us to embrace those parts of ourselves as characteristics that contribute to our overall personality. The title track expands on the concept and brings the mental imagery to new heights. As a fan of art that provokes thought and reflection, their approach to music is right up my alley.

You know their musicianship must be legit when they're able to hold their own on a tour amongst rock royalty including Dance Gavin Dance and Don Broco. They joined the ranks of Covet, A Thousand Below, and Periphery as the openers for the larger than life tour package. "Everyone is kind of a front runner paving their own way in their lane," said Hail The Sun vocalist Donovan Melero.

I sat down with the band before their show in Orlando, FL. Check out the interview below!

The tour has come to an end but Hail The Sun isn't running out of steam. They have plans to work on new music and will continue touring throughout the remainder of 2019. Learn more about Hail The Sun at www.hailthesun.com.
