The music industry (whether we realize it or not) assigns identities to artists by defining them through genre, category, style, etc. Hava recognizes that every musician is as unique as their own personal identity and allows the many facets of herself to bleed into her art. She doesn't fit any preconceived molds so let your inhibitions go and then immerse yourself in Mind Games.
Hava released her debut single Mind Games in September 2018 and this is like the gust of wind at the start of the tidal wave.
The song begins with no frills, just her soulful voice that is powerful enough to stop you in your tracks. She doesn't depend on distractions or embellishments to prove that her talent requires your attention. The track is simplistic, yet delivers a fervent energy and a beat worth nodding your head to. The musical elements that accompany her voice slowly build until the end as the tracks concludes on a satisfying cliffhanger that leaves me wanting more (and so I played it again...and again).
Musical complexities aside, the lyrical content is laden with inspiration. Hava said it is a social commentary that questions the stresses we are feeling in today's climate, whether we are struggling with love, comparing ourselves to others, or social media pressures.
“I wanted this song to give everyone listening to it a reason to think about the lifestyle we manifest for ourselves in modern society, propose the hidden question of whether you are choosing love over likes; even more so an authentic life over likes,” said Hava.
Hava's social awareness delves deep into two issues in particular: veganism and LGBTQ+ rights. She is using her platform to bring awareness to the causes and she extends a hand in her local community as well. After working with vegan companies and attending LGBTQ+ events since the early 2000's, she is combining music and activism to further propel her message.
"Just like anything else, as a society we like to stay naive to the current events that might not seem to personally affect us, we are all being personally affected," said Hava. "Knowledge and awareness is what I strive to spread through my social media account, what I consume, and how I vote with my fork."
At the forefront of it all, Hava relies on music as a safe space for self expression and discovery. Now that her work is available for the world to hear, she hopes that her soulful pop and R&B inspired music will allow others to enter her melodic haven. “When you listen to Hava you are in safe space to let go, dance, vibe and maybe get into some fun trouble,” said Hava.
Hava has two more singles recorded and on the way. Meanwhile her music video for Mind Games is expected in mid February. Stay up to date and follow her on Instagram.com/havamusic__
